Pre-pandemic days, my dog (her name is Wixom) loved to come into the counseling office with me here in La Mesa to meet clients - she's a therapy dog and she absolutely excels at being pet!
As far as I go, well, I'm your stereotypical bisexual homebody. You never know what color hair I'll show up to session with. I'm an introvert, despise confrontation, drink matcha every day, and spend way too much time escaping reality via romance novels. Stardew Valley is a weekly activity, and did I mention I read a lot? :)
This is a safe and friendly space, and I hope you'll feel welcome! Call/text (858) 876-2193 or email corina.bair@gmail.com if you'd like to move forward.
As a teenager, I had a really hard time emotionally. It was a struggle for me, for my family, and for my friends. I went to see a counselor and... well, let's just say I didn't connect with him AT ALL - it was this experience that started my journey here.
Finding the right therapist or counselor can feel daunting, but you deserve a space where you can show up as your true self and feel accepted, affirmed, and like I'm on your team (because I absolutely am!). Please call if you'd like a free 15-minute consultation!
I've worked extensively with teens and young to middle-aged adults, primarily women and nonbinary folks. I use a collaborative, inclusive approach where I help you set and achieve goals to grow and become a better version of yourself.
You want the nitty gritty? Here it is:
Grand Valley State University: Bachelor's in Psychology
San Diego State University: Master's in Social Work
Trainings: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; Dialectical Behavioral Therapy; Solution-Focused Therapy; Neuro- and Bio-Feedback
I believe you are the expert of your own experiences. I utilize a holistic and systemic approach to therapy (meaning we take into account all the systems around you - family, academic/work, social, political, etc) and enjoy collaborating with your innate understanding of yourself to create a unique therapeutic experience for each person I work with. I find that social justice, intersectional, and feminist perspectives have been more and more powerful lately.
I also incorporate both CBT and DBT in my sessions, and I always operate from a trauma-informed and client-centered perspective. I've helped people navigate relationship difficulties, identity crises, depression and anxiety, bipolar disorder, work through family and religious trauma, and more severe issues such as suicidal thoughts, self harm, and symptoms of psychosis.
My passion lies in helping people overcome their mental health challenges while guiding them on a journey of rediscovery to build their sense of self and confidence in who they are. So often, we do not take the time when we're growing up to explore these things, and this is the beauty of therapy - the time and space to be truly you. To learn who you are and become who you want to be!
