I'm known around the office for my dog - Wixom. Pre-pandemic days, Wixom loved to come into the counseling office with me here in San Diego to meet clients, you see, she is a therapy dog and she absolutely excels at being pet. Wixom takes her work very seriously; she greets each client, expects the appropriate amount of petting while providing just the right smiles and tail wags (and sometimes even licks) in return. Hopefully, Wixom and I will be able to return to in-person sessions in 2024.
As far as I go, well, I'm your stereotypical bisexual homebody. I'm an introvert, but I love to do relaxing things outside! I enjoy taking Wixom to the dog beach, the occasional hike, visiting plant shops and cute boutiques, and stopping for a tea latte at any local coffee shop. Stardew Valley is a weekly activity; catch me naming my farm animals after foods or random household appliances. I am also an avid reader and primarily enjoy fantasy, romance, and paranormal novels.
As a teenager, I had a hard time emotionally. It was a struggle for me, for my family, and for my friends. I went to see a counselor and... well, lets just say I didn't connect with him AT ALL - it was that experience that inspired me to become a better therapist than the one I had, to help those with feelings like me who needed it, and to do my best to empower and uplift others. Finding the right therapist or counselor can feel daunting, but I am always happy to help and open to feedback to ensure this is the right fit for you. Please feel free to call for a free 15 minute consultation!
I have worked extensively with teenagers and young adults since then, and it is with pride and joy that I am entrusted with their stories and able to help them thrive. I use a collaborative, client-centered model where I help you set and achieve your goals, to grow and become the best version of yourself that you can be. I would love to be able to help you and your loved ones in the same way!
You want the nitty gritty? Here it is:
I graduated from Grand Valley State University with a bachelor's in psychology, then received my master's from San Diego State University in social work; during that time I worked and interned at various agencies where I learned neuro- and bio-feedback, as well as obtained a number of skills and trainings in multiple therapy modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy.
I utilize both CBT and DBT in my sessions with clients, and I always operate from a trauma-informed and client-centered perspective. I've helped people navigate relationship difficulties, depression and anxiety, bipolar disorder, work through many types of trauma, and even more severe issues such as suicidal thoughts and self harm, even symptoms of psychosis.
I've worked with crisis populations, both adult counseling and minors, as well as those with long term severe mental illness, children and families experiencing mental health issues for the first time, and the last couple years I've worked with a variety of people in a private practice setting from many backgrounds, cultures, family situations, and the LGBTQIA2S+ community.
My passion lies in helping people overcome their mental health challenges, while also guiding them on a journey of rediscovery to help build up their sense of self, develop a strong identity, and learn who they are and what kind of person they are striving to be. So often, we do not take the time when we are growing up to explore these things, and this is the beauty of therapy - the time and space to be truly you. To learn who you are and become who you want to be!
This is a safe and friendly space for everyone, and I hope you'll feel welcome!
